Romans and Germanic Tribes as Chess Pieces

With these 32 hand-made chess pieces in fine zinc alloy, you can write the outcome of history differently again and again. For whether the legions of the Romans are defeated by the so-called barbarians or the other way round will surely depend in each game on the skill of the players. The gold-coloured figures of the Romans in their typical clothing, and the antique silver-coloured figures of the Germanic tribes – who were once called "barbarians" by the Romans – are wonderfully detailed. The impressive chess pieces in metal come with a "Made in Italy" certificate. The king figure is 7.5 cm tall in each case, the pawn figures are 6 cm tall, and the base of the figures has a diameter of 2.4 cm. Chess players who are also interested in the history of the ancient Romans and their battles against the barbarians – such as the crushingly lost battle of Varus against the Germanic peoples – will be delighted by these beautifully worked chess pieces as a gift too. The figures come without a chessboard.

32 Metal Chess Pieces on Roman-Germanic Antiquity

The complete set of 32 figures takes up the changeable conflict between the Roman Empire and various Germanic tribal groups. Rather than a single unified opponent, Rome encountered in antiquity a range of alliances and peoples – a well-known example being the Battle of the Teutoburg Forest in AD 9 under Arminius. As historical themed figures, the gold- and silver-coloured chess sides thus combine the classic game with motifs of Roman-Germanic history and, with no board included, can be combined with a suitable chessboard.
