Ghosts: A Halloween Decor Classic
Ghosts are among the best-known motifs in Halloween decor. The classic ghost in a white sheet represents a bodiless spirit and has long since turned from a figure of fear into a humorous decorative figurine. The motif also has deep linguistic roots: the German word Gespenst goes back to the Old High German „gispensti“, which meant a lure or an illusion. Ghosts and beings from the Otherworld also feature in the customs surrounding the Celtic festival of Samhain, an important forerunner of today's Halloween. Modern ghost figurines turn fright on its head and rely on charm, humour and lovingly crafted details.
Boo-Who?: Collectible Ghosts with Autumn Motifs
With the Boo-Who? series, Nemesis Now has designed its own collection of six ghosts, each with its own name and character. The flowing sheet shape and large round eyes are typical of the entire range. The motifs range from a ghost with a toadstool hat and floral tendrils to a witch with a broomstick and black cat – a good match for the witch and wizard figurines – through to a patchwork ghost with painted stitching and a ghost covered in smiling pumpkins. Standing roughly 13 to 16 cm tall, the figurines fit on a shelf, windowsill or mantelpiece. This makes them suitable both as a single piece of Halloween decor and for collecting and combining several Boo-Who? ghosts. Each figurine comes in a gift box from the series.
Cheeky Ghosts Rather Than Autumn Charm
If you prefer cheeky to cute, the small ghost figurines in white and black, bluntly showing the middle finger, are the right choice. At around 12 cm tall, they make compact ghost decor for a desk or office windowsill. Darker companions for the whole year can be found among the decorative skulls and the skeleton and reaper figurines, with seasonal additions in Halloween decorations.
