Caesar, Cleopatra and Mark Antony as Chess Pieces

The Egyptian queen Cleopatra as the queen, between Julius Caesar as the king and Mark Antony – with whom she formed a political and personal alliance after Caesar's assassination – as the bishop: this is shown by the three wonderfully worked large figures in this chess set. The horse too, with the mane of a Roman helmet, and the rooks are incredibly detailed and finely worked. Even the pedestals on which the busts stand look like parts of historical columns from ancient Rome. These lustrous Roman busts in a historical style could recall the portrait busts that, in ancient Rome, were set up in public areas as well as in the houses and villas of wealthy Romans. The 32 splendid, hand-made chess pieces with their antique-look busts are wonderfully detailed, right down to the fine faces and the inscriptions on the three large figures. Through the high-quality, antique-look gold and silver colours, they acquire an elegant, fine sheen.

32 Large Metal Chess Pieces for Larger Boards

With 32 figures, the set comprises all the pieces for two complete chess sides. The large version, with a 12 cm king and a 3.8 cm base, suits correspondingly larger chessboards, on which the detailed bust figures come into their own to particularly good effect. The metal figures, made in Italy, distinguish the two sides clearly through their gold and silver finish. As no chessboard is included, the set of figures can be deliberately combined with a board whose square size matches the bases of the figures.
