Florentine Chess Pieces with Motifs of the Renaissance

Works of art by the old masters of the Renaissance, of the kind you can still admire today in Florence and in numerous museums, are depicted wonderfully and fascinatingly detailed by these 32 chess pieces, hand-made in Italy from fine zinc alloy and coming with a "Made in Italy" certificate. Thus Michelangelo's David appears as the king, and Botticelli's Birth of Venus, which can be admired in the Florentine Uffizi, is the queen among these splendid chess pieces. Donatello's David is included too, and the Marzocco, the seated lion with the Florentine city coat of arms on its shield, plays the pawn in this artful chess set. The pedestals of all the pieces are decorated with the Florentine lily. The size of the figures, in an antique silver and gold finish, is simply perfect for the game of kings and will delight art lovers as a gift too. David as the king is 8.3 cm tall, and the pawns are 6.5 cm tall. The base of the figures has a diameter of 2.2 cm. These historically crafted chess pieces in metal make an instant eye-catcher on any table. A chessboard is not included in delivery with this set of figures. There is, however, a large selection in our shop.

David, Venus and the Marzocco as Metal Chess Pieces

The 32 chess pieces combine the classic game with well-known motifs of Florentine art history. Michelangelo's David takes the role of the king, Botticelli's Venus appears as the queen, and with Donatello's David as well as the Marzocco, further motifs closely tied to the Renaissance and the city of Florence are taken up. The Florentine lily on the pedestals carries this theme through to the last detail and makes the set of figures an unusual combination of chess, metal figures and Italian art history.
