As his name suggests, Noel's favourite time of year was always Christmas, and all his life it was his wish to meet Father Christmas for real. It has not worked out yet – perhaps he was not good enough in his lifetime. But that does not stop Noel from climbing out of his crypt every year, as early as Halloween, and playing Father Christmas at least until the giving of presents at Christmas. So that he does not lose his way, he takes the burning candle from one of the graves nearby. His Christmas costume still fits perfectly – only the presents he lugs around in his sack are rather creepy.
