Celtic Warrior Shield with a Celtic Cross

Coats of arms and shields such as those customary in the medieval royal houses were unknown to the Celts. Known as brave warriors, they nonetheless naturally also used symbols and patterns that showed their status, their identity and their belonging to a tribe. Moreover, symbols that represented strength, but also protection and rebirth, were important to the warriors. Among the important symbols, besides the Celtic knots and triskele patterns, were the tree of life and above all the Celtic cross with its long supporting beam and a ring lying at its centre.
