The boy king of Egypt
Tutankhamun ascended the throne of Egypt at around nine years of age and reigned for a further nine years until his early death. He became widely known above all through his unplundered tomb, discovered in 1922 in the Valley of the Kings – with the golden mask as the most famous find. During his lifetime he revived the cult of Amun, which his predecessor Akhenaten – consort of Nefertiti – had abandoned in favour of the Aten religion.
