A Pietà figurine that reflects the quiet depth of Mary’s sorrow and love
Many artists have portrayed Mary cradling the body of her son Jesus just taken down from the cross, yet Michelangelo’s Pietà in St Peter’s Basilica remains one of the most renowned interpretations. Commissioned by the French ambassador to the Pope, the young Michelangelo was asked to create a worthy artwork for a funerary chapel, depicting a theme then common in Alpine regions but unfamiliar in Rome: the “Vesperbild”, the Sorrowful Mother holding the lifeless body of Christ.
Michelangelo, only 24 years old at the time of completion in 1499, carved the Pietà from the finest white marble with such beauty and mastery that it still moves those who behold it. Mary’s gentle face, her seated posture upon the rock and the tender way she holds her son like a small child are rendered with extraordinary craftsmanship, even down to the delicate folds of her robe. It is one of the rare works the artist signed, declaring: “Michelangelo Buonarroti of Florence made this.”
In their Studio Collection, Veronese has created a beautifully crafted interpretation of this iconic composition in high-quality polyresin. Measuring 26 cm in height, 26 cm in width and 16 cm in depth, the figurine radiates serenity through its bronzed finish and subtle, refined colouring. This moving Pietà figurine becomes a meaningful centrepiece in devotional collections, sacred corners or Christmas nativity settings, and makes a thoughtful gift for anyone who finds comfort in Mary’s tender compassion for her son.
How a devotional Mary-and-Jesus statue conveys compassion, artistry and spiritual calm
This Pietà statue captures a moment that has symbolised empathy and devotion for centuries. Mary’s composed posture, the soft modelling of her features and the way she supports Christ’s body evoke profound tenderness. The artistic echoes of the Renaissance original deepen its sense of reverence.
The bronzed sheen and subtle colour accents lend the piece timeless elegance, allowing it to enhance any room with a quiet spiritual presence. Whether placed on a private altar, used as part of a religious display or given for a meaningful occasion, this figurine offers a dignified focal point filled with peace. You may already be imagining the calm atmosphere it could bring into your own home.
