The Tree of Life Motif and Its Symbolism across Traditions

The Tree of Life has been regarded in many cultures since time immemorial as a sacred tree and a symbol of the cycle of life. In Hinduism, the fig tree known as Ashvattha is regarded as a sacred tree and is associated, among others, with Vishnu. In Buddhism, the Bodhi tree is closely connected with the awakening and enlightenment of the Buddha. In modern Celtic-inspired interpretations, the Tree of Life often stands for growth, strength and the connection between earth and sky: the roots are connected to the earth and to nature, while the crown with its canopy of leaves – standing for spirit, life, progress and growth – is seen as the connection to the heavens. In Norse mythology, Yggdrasil is the world tree that connects the various realms of the world order. And in the Book of Genesis, the "Tree of Life" and the "Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil" stand in the Garden of Eden. The bronzed Veronese pet urn is 35 cm tall, 22 cm wide and 18.5 cm deep and is made of polyresin. It offers a capacity of approx. 5400 ml and is filled through an 8.5 × 14 cm opening on the underside that can be closed with a screw.
