A Violet Skull with Gemstone and Floral Motifs

Beneath artful roses, delicate floral tendrils and Gothic ornamentation, the surface of this skull, elaborately decorated with gemstones, glows in darkly mysterious shades of violet. The striking skull looks as though it had come straight from the dark, occult skull collection of a necromancer.

The 6.5 cm tall, 5.5 cm wide and 8 cm deep Gothic hanging ornament belongs to the "House of Obscura" collection by Nemesis Now. It is made of carefully hand-painted polyresin and is supplied in a designed gift box that protects the fine details in storage and transit.

Decorated Skulls and Bones as a Historical Motif

Lavishly decorated remains have a historical precedent: above all in the 17th and 18th centuries, relics venerated as catacomb saints were brought from Rome to Catholic churches in southern Germany, Austria and Switzerland, among other places. There they were adorned with precious fabrics, gold and silverwork, pearls and stones. The contrast between transience and costly splendour is a reminder of the effect of this Gothic ornament.
